Ericsson DUW 41 01 KDU127161/3 Digital Unit WCDMA 3G

The Ericsson DUW 41 01 (Product Number: KDU 127 161/3 OR KDU127161/3) is a first-generation Digital Unit WCDMA (DUW) designed for use in Ericsson’s RBS 6000 series base stations. It acts as the “brain” or baseband processing unit for 3G (WCDMA/UMTS) networks.

Description OF Ericsson DUW 41 01 KDU127161/3

The Ericsson DUW 41 01 KDU127161/3 is responsible for baseband processing, radio network control functions, and the interface between the core network and the radio units. It processes traffic and signaling, manages synchronization (timing), and provides the O&M (Operation and Maintenance) interface for the site.
As part of the modular RBS 6000 architecture, it is designed to be hot-swapped into a BBU (Baseband Unit) subrack. While older than the current 5G-capable “Baseband 6630” series, it remains a critical component in legacy 3G infrastructure.

Key Features of Ericsson DUW 41 01 KDU127161/3

  • Plug-and-Play: Designed for easy insertion into the RBS 6101, 6201, or 6601 cabinets.
  • Reliability: Built for 24/7 carrier-grade operation with high MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures).
  • Scalability: Multiple DUW units can be used in a single cabinet to increase site capacity.
  • Management: Provides full support for Ericsson’s OSS (Operations Support System) for remote monitoring and configuration.
As of 2025, the DUW 41 01 is largely considered a legacy product, as most operators have transitioned to multi-mode Baseband units (like the Baseband 6630/6648) that support 4G and 5G in addition to legacy 3G services
